What is Matcha tea?
Matcha tea is a powdered form of green tea. Camellia Sinensis plants are shaded for about three weeks before harvesting and the stems and veins are removed during the first stage of processing. After this, leaves go through grinding process. During the shading phase, Camellia Sinensis leaves acquire more chlorophyll and amino acid content. Matcha tea is mainly popular in Japan for their famous tea ceremony process.
If matcha tea is the powdered form of green tea, how come it produces greater health benefits?
Here lay some terminology defects. The green tea we generally consume and that is available in the market is the loose leaf tea. The name of it may vary country to country as per harvesting time and technique of production. Matcha tea making process is completely different from the regular green tea making process because match tea is totally soluble to water but normal green tea is not soluble.

Starting with the cultivation process, regular green teas are cultivated under the Sun while matcha teas areshade-grown green teas before three weeks of harvesting the leaves.

Green tea has only one use as a drink. But due to its powdered form, match tea has many other uses in terms of baking and cooking.
Regular green tea can be bought at much more affordable price than the matcha tea (the comparison is made on the basis of per cup cost). Due to its powdered form, matcha tea is much more expensive than the normal green tea.

Brain function– 2 gm of green tea contains almost 20-30 mg of caffeine thus it is beneficial for improved brain function. Also, green tea contains L-theanine which helps to improve brain function as well.
Fat burning– The consumption of green tea facilitates body’s ability to burn fat as it increases metabolism rate.
Cancer– Another main function of green tea is that it helps to reduce the chances of Cancer in a great deal. It contains a high concentration of antioxidant which is useful in the prevention of cancer cells.
Dental health– Green tea contains almost 13 to 14% of Catechins which is useful for dental health. Thus, regular intake of green tea can prove to be great for dental health as well.
Weight loss– Regular consumption of green tea also aids in weight loss.
Glycemic Control– It has been found that green tea can also lower the sugar level in blood and thus it is useful in case of Glycemia control.
However, it is not prescribed to consume green tea in a high dose because unnecessary intake of green tea leads to toxicity sometimes.

Benefits of Matcha Tea
As matcha green tea is the powdered form of original leaf green tea, matcha green tea almost shows the same health benefits as same as the green tea. However, matcha tea contains a much larger amount of caffeine which helps to improve brain function better than the green tea. Matcha tea also helps to prevent cancer, and it also helps to increase metabolism rate which in turn helps to keep your slim and fit.
Due to the matcha green tea cultivation process, it produces a large amount of amino acid, mainly theanine. So, matcha tea contains a large amount of protein than the regular green tea, precisely 172 times greater than the green tea protein.
Along with 11% Catechin, matcha tea also contains a large amount of ORAC– an antioxidant which has a high presence in Blueberry. Matcha tea contains 1384 ORAC unit per gram.

Which is the winner: matcha tea or green tea
So, if we can compare the both the teas, it can be seen that match tea contains 10 times the nutrition value than the regular brewed green tea. Although, matcha contains less catechin than the green tea the presence of high ORAC in matcha make this tea much beneficial for health purpose.
Matcha tea has up to 137 times more antioxidant than the regular green tea. Also, matcha tea has 130 times more calcium and 172 times more protein than the normal green tea. So, this comparison clearly states that matcha tea has greater beneficial effects on our health.
The other factor is when we drink green tea, we boil the leaves and ultimately remove it from the drink during preparation. Thus, almost 70% of the nutrient value of green tea gets washed away with such removal process.
But in the case of matcha tea, we do not remove any part of it because it comes in the powder form. Rather we mix it well with water or use it in other baking procedure as well. And thus all the nutritional value of matcha tea remains intact.
Considering these two aspects, it is clear that matcha green tea is much healthier for us to consume. We can also use matcha tea in the different baking process as well due to its sweet flavor. Though, it is little more expensive than the regular loose leaf green tea, the benefits of the matcha green tea totally worth the price.
